Is my organisation eligible to apply?
To check if your organisation is eligible to apply, please see our Eligibility page. This is where you will find information about the kinds of organisations that we support and also the kinds of organisations and projects that we do not support. If your organisation does not meet these criteria, please do not apply.
When can my organisation apply for a grant?
You will find application dates here. Our grant rounds alternate between UK and Overseas projects. First time applicants can apply in the next appropriate round.
If your organisation has applied previously and was awarded a grant, you can apply for another grant provided that; it has been at least 12 months since you received the previous grant, that your grant has been spent and that we have received your 12 Month Progress Report.
What if my organisation has previously been unsuccessful in applying?
If you have been unsuccessful in applying to ECF once, you may reapply after 12 months and in the next appropriate round for your project. If you have been unsuccessful more than once, we recommend that you do not reapply.
My organisation is based overseas - can we apply?
No. You must have a registered UK office in order to apply for a grant.
What kind of projects can we apply for funding for?
Your project should clearly fit the Aims of our Foundation. It may help to look at some examples of the Overseas and UK projects that we are currently supporting. You should also check the kinds of projects that we do not support here.
How much can we apply for?
First time applicants should not apply for more than £5,000.
Can we submit more than one application?
No. The Trustees will only consider one application per organisation. You should therefore choose the project that is in the most need and that best fits with our Foundation's Aims.
Why can't we access the application form?
The application form can only be viewed and accessed when the application window is open and when you are logged in. You must be registered in order to log in. You can not access the application form at other times.
Why can't we log in?
If you have previously registered on our website, please note that our website has recently been updated. Therefore you will need to reregister.
Can we start our application and come back to it later?
Yes. The application form autosaves your data. If you leave the page and return to it later, you will be asked if you would like to 'restore' the form you were working on.
What kind of information do we need to provide in our application?
Our application form covers your eligibility, basic details about your organisation, your project details, as well as financial information and staffing information. You will need to upload a copy of your latest accounts and the details of an independent referee. You are able to submit ONE piece of supporting information if you wish, though this is optional. Please do not send information by post.
Can we arrange to meet with the Trustees?
The Trustees only meet with organisations after a reapplication has been submitted. If your organisation submits an application for further funding, one of the Trustees will contact you to arrange a meeting. Please do not request a meeting with the Trustees.
What happens after we submit our application?
If you have applied to ECF for a grant previously, whether successfully or unsuccessfully, you will be contacted by one of our Trustees to arrange a meeting. If you have never applied to us before, you will next hear from us with the outcome of your application.
We inform all applicants of the outcome, whether successful or unsuccessful. Please do not chase us for an outcome – all eligible applications will be considered at the relevant Trustee meeting (Trustee Grant Meetings usually take place over several weeks) and applicants will be informed of the outcome as soon as possible. You can see roughly when you can expect to hear from us here. If you are successful, we will let you know what you need to do next to take up our offer.
Can we have feedback on our application?
We are unable to offer individual feedback on applications.
If you are awarded a Grant
How does the grant period work?
If your organisation is awarded a grant from ECF, the 12 month grant period begins on the day you receive the grant. You will be contacted after six months to ensure the project is going ahead as planned. You will then submit a 12 Month Progress Report 12 months after you received the funding.
